L.S. has a long career in art: she has worked as a costume and set designer in several theatres in Finland. She has taught art subjects in secondary schools. She has had her artistic work in tapestry hanging in several private and joint exhibitions in Finland, Sweden and Germany.

During the last year on Costa del Sol she has been giving lectures in art history, teaching painting and drawing and training many voluntary groups in oil painting, water-colour and other mediums (landscape, still life, free creativity works like decoupage). Her pedagogical method is to support the learner’s own creativity and free expression offering him compact knowledge on composition, colours, mediums and utensils.

Since she has met with the bright sun and mysterious moon of Andalusia she paints in oil on new canvases. In her pictures there is something happening: a split-second moment turns up but there is a long mysterious story behind it. The spectator gets a feeling of wondering what could be the whole narration.
Leila Selmo’s paintings are provoking strong and energetic mental pictures. Harmonic but unexpected colours deepen the impression.
